This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad

O Lord, what a morning. Jesus is alive. Let’s rejoice and be glad. We have run to the tomb, we have found it empty, we have seen him raised to life and now we bear witness to the world around us. St Peter, one of the first witnesses, speaks boldly of all this to the household of Cornelius. And in all of his excitement, one memory stands out: ‘We have eaten and drunk with him after his Resurrection from the dead’. Eating and drinking, sharing table fellowship, is significant. God dwells with humans, Jesus shares in all our pain and even our hunger, he unites us in all our differences. And when we receive the Eucharist, the memorial of his suffering, death and Resurrection, we are caught up in Jesus’ self-offering and are nourished and strengthened as the body of Christ.
