Dwell in the Spirit of God
Overburdened is a great word. It feels contemporary. Jesus uses the image of an animal, perhaps a donkey, that has been forced to carry a load that is too heavy. Many of us feel the same. Take a look in your diary or your online calendar. I think Jesus might ask us to delete a few commitments so we can spend more time with the gentleness of God. St Paul sounds the same.
We don’t have to obey the dictates of our unspiritual selves. We don’t even have to drag ourselves back to the shops for something we may have forgotten. On a Sunday, we don’t even have to think too much about the demands of the week ahead. ‘The Spirit of God has made a home in you.’ We can stay at home with the Lord and soak in today’s Psalm: ‘the Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love.’
