Sunday 9 October 2022

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time. 2 Kings 5:14-17. The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power – Psalm 97(98):1-4. 2 Timothy 2:8-13. Luke 17:11-19.
If we hold firm then we will reign with Christ
The courage of the disciples continually inspires me. From our safe places, we can look across the world and see and know that people are persecuted for their faith. This seemed to be a regular part of the disciples’ lived experience. There is such a paradox around the sharing of the Good News and suffering. We are living in a time in history when like the eras before us, we are being persecuted for speaking the truth. The chains we feel are those of vitriol, ridicule, dismissal and irrelevance, but ‘the word of God is not in chains’, so we are empowered in love, justice, kindness and acceptance. We are not to worry, but endure, and encourage each other like Timothy encourages us, and strive to be happy to die with him and live with him, our Jesus Christ.
