Isaiah 26:1-6. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord – Psalm 117(118):1, 8-9, 19-21, 25-27. Matthew 7:21, 24-27.
The wise build with solid foundations
I cherish that peaceful feeling on arriving home safely after a long, hard day. Not just anyone is allowed into my safe space and that is why it is somewhere I can relax. Just as people who are respectful are the most welcome in my house, the same goes for those who enter the Lord’s gates. The safety behind those gates is provided by the Lord himself and it seems he’s as disinclined to let energy vampires into his house as I am. Of course, some houses are safer than others, particularly in the advent of climate change. Those who are wise build with solid foundations, while those who are not find their houses wash away.
However, there is a warning here too, because these readings are saying that our safehouse is the Lord’s, and to be allowed in, we must recognise him as the foundation of our faith. Without his strength, we will be washed away in life’s floods, unable to enter the safety behind his gates. So, let’s be polite and grateful house guests.
