St Teresa of the Child Jesus
Job 19:21-27. I believe I shall see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living – Ps 26(27):7-9, 13-14. Luke 10:1-12.
God’s help lets us fly
‘Do not be afraid,’ Jesus tells his disciples repeatedly. But it’s hard. We still have our bills to pay, work to find and do, family and friends to care for. We’re still getting older. And we don’t have Jesus with us in the way that the original disciples did.
In the face of all those responsibilities and fears, there’s a temptation to go it alone, to not take that risk of trusting Jesus with ‘the big stuff’. But what Jesus wants us to discover is that our vulnerability is not weakness to be overcome but rather opportunity to let God show us how much more we are capable of with his help.
We’re like baby birds. Leaving the nest feels scary and a little mad. But it’s only when we take the leap and trust that we learn that with God’s help we can fly.
