About Today Readings

1 Corinthians 3:18-23. To the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it – Psalm 23(24):1-6. Luke 5:1-11.

We all belong to God

In the psalm today we hear the words ‘To the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it’. Often we imagine the word Lord pertains to a title for Jesus. The Lord referred to in the psalm is our God. We all belong to God – the earth and all that fills it. Simon and the fishermen filled their nets to breaking point, after they listened to the voice of Jesus. Simon and his friends were tired, they had been fishing all night, and yet Jesus speaks to them, and Simon responds ‘if you say so’. Our lives belong to God. Today, take time to listen to Jesus speaking to us, and may we respond as Simon did: ‘if you say so’.
