About Today Readings

2 Corinthians 3:15 – 4:1, 3-6. The glory of the Lord will dwell in our land – Ps 84(85):9-14. Matthew 5:20-26.

Anyone who is angry with his brother will answer for it

‘Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift’. (Matthew 5:23-24)

In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that reconciling with our friends and family is essential to the health of our relationship with God. It’s not easy to admit I’m wrong. It’s not easy to apologise and say, ‘I am sorry’. Especially when they were such jerks. But, I don’t have to say I’m sorry for the whole mess or drama – just my part. How did I contribute to the argument, disagreement, or ordeal? Was I unkind or inconsiderate? What can I do to mend what is broken?

Lord, please help me see my part in my relationships. Don’t let me hide behind excuses and justifications. Let me face my faults honestly so that I don’t risk my relationship with you.
