About Today Readings

Malachi 3:13-20. Psalm 1. Luke 11:5-13.

Happy are they who hope in the Lord – Psalm 1

‘Ask and it will be given to you’

When Jesus prayed to God using the word ‘Abba’, he taught us to approach our heavenly Father with the heart of small children talking to their daddy. In today’s readings, we are reminded that God is a good Father, who loves his children with a compassionate tenderness. We shouldn’t be afraid to ask for God help, guidance and to send us his Holy Spirit. We don’t need to question if God will bestow this gift to us since God is our father. We need only ask, and like a loving father, God will strengthen and invigorate us with his Holy Spirit.

Father, I ask, I seek, I knock. Please bless me with your Holy Spirit, so that I may remain close to you and do your will. Like a small child, who whines at their father’s knee, I beg for your Holy Spirit so I have the courage and power to move mountains.
