St Clare
Ezekiel 12:1-12. Do not forget the works of the Lord! – Psalm 77(78):56-59, 61-62. Matthew 18:21-19:1.
Lord, I pray that I might draw closer to you
Today is the feast day of St Clare of Assisi. Clare was one of the first followers of St Francis of Assisi and wrote the first set of monastic orders known to have been written by a woman. She is also the patron saint of television and screens.
Long before Covid, zoom, or YouTube, Clare attended Mass from her sickbed. She was miraculously able to see and hear the Christmas Midnight Mass taking place in the basilica on the far side of town from her room. St Clare livestreamed Mass before it was cool.
These past few years have felt sometimes like an exile of sorts. We are separated from comfort and familiarity. We need to find a new way out of hardship. Lord, I pray that I might draw closer to you when things get stressful; that like St Clare I might transcend barriers and turn my face towards you.
