Freedom is where the Spirit is

Freedom is one of those nebulous words. A bit like the word ‘truth’, it can mean different things to different people, depending on their circumstances and experiences. It can encompass anything from small personal freedoms to larger societal choices. For some it may mean choosing between the different kinds of takeaways for dinner one night, for others it might mean being ‘free’ and affluent enough to buy food and medicine. It might be free and fair elections or being free to gain an education. But these are small freedoms, almost like a veil over our minds. It is when we turn to the Lord that we find freedom. ‘And we, with our unveiled faces reflecting like mirrors the brightness of the Lord, all grow brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect; this is the work of the Lord who is Spirit.’ Let us pray that we radiate the light of the Lord.
