Whoever welcomes the one I send welcomes me
Today’s Gospel is apt for both Eastertide and for our Church in Australia. Through the work of the Plenary Council, we know that changes must be made for our Church to be moving in a Christ-centred direction. This Gospel reflects on how Jesus has just washed the feet of the disciples at the Last Supper. He speaks of servanthood. No servant is greater than their master. The priesthood in which we all share through our baptism must be one of servanthood. We must behave as the one who sends us out into the world. We must be missionary, not turned in for our own preservation. Jesus laments that one who shares the table has rebelled against him. We know that there will always be those who rebel, but we must not. We must welcome all who are sent by God because then we shall be welcoming God into our lives.
