Let us be generous

Jesus has a wonderful way of making comfortable people uncomfortable. Addressing the context of the early Christian churches, Luke’s Gospel encourages a broader understanding of God and his love for the whole of creation. Christian generosity and care are not only to be shared with those whom we love but also our enemies. And the reward? It will overflow beyond all measure. It is precisely when we are comfortable that we are called to be generous, to give, so others may simply live. This includes not only financial and practical resources but also our social and emotional gifts. To give time, presence and thought to another can be more precious than a contribution to a Go Fund Me page. Instead of simply imagining a world where we followed Jesus’ instruction to love our enemy, let’s try to live this radical call to generosity each day.
