How do we truly listen?

Today, both Isaiah and Matthew use the imagery of someone who needs to open their ears to truly hear what their God has to say to them. There is so much going on in our world – how do we make sure that we actually hear what God is saying to us? How do we discern God’s voice among all the white noise out there? I am someone who is sensory-sensitive to sound. I often struggle to discern foreground from background sound. When there is more than one person talking at once, I can’t hear either of them. I need to get rid of all the other sounds in order to really hear. For everyone, there are times when God’s voice is lost in the melee. How do we cut out everything else and truly
