About Today Readings

Isaiah 54:1-10. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me – Psalm 29(30):2, 4-6, 11-13. Luke 7:24-30.

My love will never leave you

The last line of fairytales ‘And they lived happily ever after’ sums up the fantasy nature of these stories. We know in reality the implied scenario of forever sunlight, constant smiles and endless forgiveness (not that anyone does anything that requires forgiveness) probably didn’t last the journey from church to palace as the happy couple complain about uncomfortable clothing, interfering in-laws and bothersome guests. Being human, we experience boredom, anger, sadness, a longing for privacy, or a night out without responsibilities. In full knowledge of our inconstancies, the Lord’s promise makes such a profound impact – ‘for the mountains may depart, the hills be shaken, but my love for you will never leave you, and my covenant of peace with you will never be shaken’. We can live happily ever after in God’s love.
