About Today Readings

Ezekiel 12:1-12. Psalm 77(78):56-59, 61-62. Matthew 18:21-19:1.

Do not forget the works of the Lord!—Psalm 77(78):56-59, 61-62.

‘Forgive not seven times but seventy-seven.’

To dwell on real or imaginary wrongs that have been done to us by others is a sure way of making us very unhappy. We need to have open and generous hearts ready to ask for forgiveness from God and others. We are invited to forgive freely, and to look on others with the same love with which God looks at us.

The challenge is not just to forgive, but to welcome the person back into the same level of trust and intimacy as before.

This means we leave ourselves open to be hurt again.

The call is to be ministers of reconciliation in our world.

Lord, be for me a reconciling presence in all my relationships.
