St Margaret – a symbol of compassion, piety and wisdom

One of the saints being celebrated today is Margaret of Scotland, also known as Queen Margaret. She led a remarkable life that left a lasting impact on both her country and the Church. Born in exile, Margaret displayed immense strength and resilience throughout her life. She used her influence to promote justice, education, and the arts. Margaret’s devotion to her faith was unwavering. She prioritised the wellbeing of the poor and marginalised, establishing hospitals and orphanages to provide care and support.

Margaret’s legacy lives on as a symbol of compassion, piety, and wisdom. Her commitment to serving others and her devotion to her faith continues to inspire people. St Margaret of Scotland serves as a shining example of how one individual’s dedication can make a profound difference in the lives of many.

And as we hear in the last sentence of the first reading from the Book of Wisdom, may we, like Margaret, continue to ‘deploy strength from one end of the earth to the other, ordering all things for good’.
