You are the Messiah
With hindsight, dear Lord, we are at one with Peter and know that you are the Messiah, the Chosen One. But we are also at one with Peter when he can’t face up to the fact that great suffering, rejection and death await you.
We can be reluctant when we learn that no life lacks a cross or suffering. But, with your help and our own experience of life, we gradually find that taking up our cross, generously and lovingly, brings with it joy and fulfilment. That can sound weird – the suffering is there but so are you. Our cross is tailored for us so that we can manage it, albeit with difficulty. We will never sink under it if we lean on your great strength for help.
