What is affecting your heart today?
Jesus leaves his disciples with these encouraging words, ‘Rise, let us be on our way’ but not before consoling their troubled hearts, by promising to leave them his peace. In a similar way, Paul places a ‘fresh heart into his disciples’, a renewed vigour and desire to persevere in the faith. The disciples of Jesus and Paul witnessed the persecution they faced in responding to God’s call and this may explain some hesitation in walking carefree through ‘the door of faith’. Today, many Christians continue to be persecuted for practising their belief, while in other places, Christianity flourishes. In our Australian context, religion largely goes unnoticed by the growing secular majority, who generally treat faith with ambivalence or apathy. This is not to say that the stones directed at Paul are not felt by modern Christian disciples. What is affecting your heart today?
