About Today Readings

St Sebastian

1 Samuel 18:6-9, 19:1-7. In God I trust; I shall not fear – Psalm 55(56):2-3, 9-14. Mark 3:7-12.

Jesus ordered them not to make him known

Leo: I don’t get it, Jesus. You are drawing huge crowds, healing people, and routing your enemies, and then you run away to the seaside. Why did you leave when you were on a roll?

Jesus: I wanted to draw people to God, Leo, not become a rock star. God moves in our hearts, and people need space to accept or reject me.

Leo: Yes, but you obliged the crowds when they kept coming. Why cure people and drive out demons if you want to lie low? And why tell demons to shut up? Any publicity is good publicity.

Jesus: God called me to join people in their weakness. So, I healed them and freed them from their demons. The demons would have made me a power broker and not a servant. That’s God’s way, Leo, don’t you get it?

Leo: Not really, Jesus, but may I stay and watch you?
