Acts 22:30; 23:6-11. Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope – Ps 15(16):1-2, 5, 7-11. John 17:20-26.
Jesus prays for us
In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus pray for us. We who believe because of what the apostles gave witness to – the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus. There he is suffering gravely and yet expressing his care for those who will come to be his Body. Jesus prays that we may be one because that is what it means to follow him and what is required to make tangible Jesus’ presence in the world. One with each other, and one with Jesus Christ. In this way we can come to have life in and through God. Not by what we do ourselves but by what we are invited to share in with Jesus.
As I contemplate Jesus’ praying for me on the Cross, what do I want to ask him for? What help do I need to be united to Jesus and his Church?
