About Today Readings

Acts 8:26-40. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy – Psalm 65(66):8-9, 16-17, 20. John 6:44-51.

Philip baptises an Ethiopian

There is great joy in the readings today, not the least in Philip’s meeting with an Ethiopian while making their different journeys. The idea of travel following the restrictions imposed by the need to manage Covid is intoxicating indeed. But even the smallest encounters with people once we began to get out and about again was joyous. Each time I met with someone I hadn’t seen for some time I found great pleasure in being able to exchange news, to inquire about family and health, to smile (and occasionally a hug). Imagine Philip’s joy and excitement of knowing the Good News and wanting to share it as widely as possible. Surely this joy was one of the reasons the Ethiopian was so captivated by Philip’s story. As I go about my business today may I be filled with the joy of the Good News.
