St John the Baptist

John prepares the way for Jesus
John the Baptist’s story will always exist in the shadow of Jesus, but he’s more than a side character. There was between them a family relationship, a relationship as fellow preachers among the Jewish peoples, and of course his special role in Jesus’ baptism. John plays a vital part in preparing the way for Jesus.
As we reflect on his story today, let’s consider the various aspects of our own relationship with Jesus – as children of God, as witnesses to the Good News, as ministers among God’s people, as sinners in need of redemption, and the many other ways our lives intersect with Christ’s. How might we build on each of those aspects of our relationship, so that we can come closer to Jesus in our lives?
