About Today Readings

Acts 3:11‑26. Psalm 8:2, 5-9. Luke 24:35-48.

O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8:2, 5-9.

‘Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself.’

Jesus appears to the disciples and it takes a long time for them to absorb and believe this unexpected event. Luke explains that ‘in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering’. The disciples experience renewed hope and abounding life as he eats and opens the scriptures before them. Jesus enters their lives as an invitation to believe.

In the reading from Acts, the disciples break into other people’s lives as Jesus did. They surprise the people. Peter not only cures a man, but he also teaches about Jesus, his resurrection, and the hope and possibility found in Jesus’ presence.

We shall find him at the table with our fellow Christians and in people we meet on the road. Our faith is in Jesus Christ, dead and risen, present in our midst. ‘Touch me and see’: tangible things and people are signs of our faith.
