Genuine love rejoices for the other

You can tell when Jesus and the Father have made their home in someone. Think of a person you are drawn to, whose attraction is sustaining, not fleeting, and you know you are experiencing goodness. Jesus, in this passage, is lovingly encouraging us to see through what the world offers and to choose him. He knows we are not perfect, he knows we want the peace he offers, and he also knows we need the Holy Spirit to strengthen our resolve. Genuine love rejoices for the other, because it trusts that the love we have is never diminished. So let us listen to Jesus and soak in his words when our little hearts are troubled, and try not to be afraid. On this Anzac Day, this day of remembering those who gave of themselves completely for our peace, we also remember Jesus’ words: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you’.
