How do we help to grow our communities of faith?
Often what holds us in faith is the community with whom we share that faith. The people that make up these communities become a ‘great comfort to us in the middle of our own troubles and sorrows’, just as the Thessalonians are for St Paul.
There’s nothing surprising, and certainly nothing improper, about this. We should lean on each other in faith because we are human, made in the image and likeness of the Trinitarian God, and so made for relationship. Our relationships with one another can help us to be held in relation with God.
It’s striking that often when Jesus wants us to think about our own approach to the Kingdom of Heaven, he does so by drawing out how we treat each other. We might ask ourselves whether we find ourselves in communities of faith, and, if so, how we help to grow them?
