Isaiah 32:15-18. The Lord speaks of peace to his people – Psalm 84(85):9-14. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. Matthew 5:1-12.
The Spirit distributes gifts to different people just as he chooses
Today’s second reading is one of my favourites. How easy it is to fall into the trap of comparison. St Paul reminds us to use our God-given talents and not regret that we aren’t like other people.
Perhaps comparison is another way we try to control our lives and those around us. Today’s Gospel reading reminds us not to worry, but instead to trust in God. I can accept this well in theory. So why do I keep finding myself rejecting it in practice? It is so easy to compare myself to others, to try to wrest control from God and to fret about my lot.
Lord, help me to accept myself as you made me and to use my talents for your glory.
