About Today Readings

St Cyril of Alexandria

2 Kings 24:8-17. For the glory of your name, O Lord, deliver us – Psalm 78(79):1-5, 8-9. Matthew 7:21-29.

Are you a true disciple?

Today’s Gospel warns us against being a false disciple. Sometimes it is easy for me to look at prominent Christians in the media and see those whom I would not consider ‘true disciples’. That politician. That televangelist. That actor. That bishop. He is so noisy about being a Christian, but that’s not what Christianity is about. He is definitely not a true disciple!

It is much more challenging to turn that eye of scrutiny on myself. Are there times when I chase the image of being a five-star person while ignoring what God is actually asking of me? Regular prayer and time with the Blessed Sacrament help keep me aligned and humble.
