St Wenceslas; Ss Laurence Ruiz & Cc
Haggai 1:1-8. The Lord takes delight in his people – Psalm 149:1-6, 9. Luke 9:7-9.
Rebuild the house
The Scripture readings today remind us that our God takes delight in us, and describes the joy and celebration in us as we contemplate our God of mercy, wisdom and justice. Haggai the prophet dreams of rebuilding a new temple, a dwelling place for the Lord among his people. In the previous chapters, Luke’s Gospel records how Jesus is unfolding the Kingdom of God. People everywhere are crowding to hear and see him. Even Herod the Tetrarch, self-confessed murderer of John the Baptist, hearing of Jesus’ teachings and miracles, asks ‘Who is this about whom I hear such things?’ And he kept trying to see him.
Dear Jesus, even sinners are fascinated by you. You came to heal us and set us free from sin and death. You have the words of eternal life. Please be with me today and always. Amen
