About Today Readings

St Thomas Becket

1 John 2:3-11. Let heaven and earth exult in joy! – Psalm 95(96):1-3, 5-6. Luke 2:22-35.

Simeon’s blessing

‘Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.’

I am humbled to bless God’s promise. A glimpse of the Messiah, I have waited for so long. I was patient, and I hoped that I was not mistaken. Was I to see the Messiah? Was I to meet the mother who bore him? The father who would raise him? Then, the child appeared. In all his tiny wonder, I witnessed your promise come to fruition.

Lord, remind me not to give up hope. You are faithful to the end. Like Simeon, let me always remember you uphold your word and promises. Let me never forget your faithfulness.
