St Dominic

Our dwelling place with God

Today is the Feast of St Dominic. There is a story that when Dominic was young, and Spain was gripped by famine, he gave away his money and sold his clothes and possessions to feed the hungry. After he had founded the Order of Preachers, he was said to always take for himself the ‘worst accommodations and the meanest clothes’. This austere life cost him – he died at 51 after arriving at a convent sick with fever from his travels.

Yet, it was said that Dominic met any discomforts in his life with praises for God. One could say that his earthly surroundings didn’t matter, Dominic had already found a lovely dwelling place with God. We pray that we also find this dwelling place.
