About Today Readings

St Ignatius Loyola

Exodus 40:16-21, 34-38. How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord, mighty God! – Ps 83(84):3-6, 8, 11. Matthew 13:47-53.

Blessed are they who dwell in your house ever singing your praise.

Moses was so in tune with his God that, not only did he obey explicit instructions for building the tabernacle, but the Israelites delayed their progress towards the promised land until God removed the cloud covering the tent of meeting each time. Jesus, in his parables of the kingdom of heaven, also reiterates the rewards for those who are totally dedicated to the will of God – symbolised in the pearl of great price, the good soil for the sower, and the treasure in the field.

The psalm also reminds us that our home is in heaven. Let us read it aloud slowly to savour the beautiful words, for the wonderful promise that ‘no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly’.
