Ephesians 6:10-20. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock! – Psalm 143(144):1-2, 9-10. Luke 13:31-35.
As a hen gathers her brood under her wings
Among the images today of devils and armour, chains and foxes, there is a beautiful picture of Jesus as a mother hen. At times that feel violent, amid struggles, harshness and the appearance of evil, God is waiting for us in the form that we need. A rock, a fountain, a mother, a father, a shepherd, a shield, an eagle, a gentle breeze . . . we can find God in them all. None of these captures God completely. God is like all these things, unlike all these things, and greater than the best of all these things. So how does Jesus come to me today? How does God show up today in the way I need most?
