Isaiah 26:1-6. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord – Psalm 117(118):1, 8-9, 19-21, 25-27. Matthew 7:21, 24-27.
The rains fell and the floods came
Lord, my house is a humpy: the roof
Leaks, the windows rattle, floorboards
Rotten . . . Come a hurricane, and down
The gurgler goes my house and me.
I would have loved to build my house on rock,
Doors barred, double glazing, walls
In triple brick and bound with steel,
Safe against the raging floods.
I didn’t, lazy, lippy windbag
that I am. But, Lord, you love me.
Do send floods, but throw me on a plank
to bobble my wayward route to you.
