You must take up your cross
Jesus, my God, my king, my love,
Why did you come to die for me?
You had it all in Paradise,
Yet came to slum it here with us,
To wear our pain, our rage, our sin,
And die the death no-hopers do,
Undefended, undefending.
No king, it seemed, nor God, nor Lord,
But you are still my love, my way
To come to God, my path to walk
Through pain and loss in the wild hope
Of finding you at my journey’s end.
