About Today Readings

1 Corinthians 3:18-23. Psalm 23(24):1-6. Luke 5:1-11.

To the Lord belongs the earth and all that fills it—Psalm 23(24):1-6.

You belong to Christ.

These readings help us consider our identity in Christ. We can be grateful in the knowledge that we belong to Christ and he belongs to the Father.

Jesus knew that the best way to win over a fisherman is to show him you know a thing or two about fishing. Peter saw Jesus’ miracle was for him. Here, God is visiting his people.

In the person of Jesus, the invisible God is sitting in Peter’s boat. He touched the hearts of these fishermen so profoundly that ‘they left everything and followed him’. From the ordinary things of our lives – washing nets, waiting for fish – we look out to see the way Jesus wishes to come into our space.
