1 John 4:19 – 5:4. Lord, every nation on earth will adore you – Psalm 71(72):1-2, 14-15, 17. Luke 4:14-22.

‘We love because God first loved us.’

There is something about today’s Gospel reading that really reminds me that Jesus truly experienced life as a human. There is something poignant about the God of the Universe, the One Whom every nation on Earth will adore, coming to His hometown and having to convince people that he’s more than just ‘the son of Joseph’.

It can be hard to impress the people who know us, or to escape the stereotypes that others might impose on us. It’s important to remember that God knows me better than anyone else, even better than I know myself. It is when I fully appreciate (though who can ever do this?) God’s knowledge and love of me, that I can begin to realise my true potential. ‘We love because God first loved us.’
