This is my commandment: love one another
It sounds so easy-peasy, Lord,
to love our mates, until, that is,
we get to know them better,
and then we see that they are just
like us, so unreliable.
I could imagine trying to love
your Judas and the Pharisees.
that would surely be heroic,
but to love the hangers-on
who bore and needle us from dawn
to night is quite another thing.
Lord, you must help me to give it a go.
