About Today Readings

Colossians 1:9-14. Psalm 97(98):2-6. Luke 5:1-11.

The Lord has made known his salvation — Psalm 97(98):2-6.

‘If you say so, I will put out the nets.’

How often, Lord, your words in the gospels speak, as they do today, of the rich harvest promised to those who surrender their life to you. The bounty, the hundredfold, and lavish banquets are a few of the images you use to convey how much you want to give us as we labour in your service.

All you ask is our full and free response to your offer of love. You ask us to set no limits for you, not to look back over our shoulders. You bid us press on in the love of you whose only wish is to be with his beloved.

Lord, give me a heart that really trusts you and delights in your gifts.
