About Today Readings

Colossians 1:9-14. The Lord has made known his salvation – Psalm 97(98):2-6. Luke 5:1-11.

‘When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him’

The Good Shepherd was also a Good Fisherman and quickly caught Simon and his friends in his net. They leave everything and follow. How many men and women down the ages have been caught by the Lord and left everything? Saul was ‘captured’ on the road to Damascus, and became Paul, the greatest missionary of all. He writes to the church in Colossae urging them to give thanks to the Father who has enabled them to share in the inheritance of the saints. The church in Colossae, which came to birth through the prayers and preaching of Paul, the apostle, in what was then Asia Minor, no longer survives in modern day Turkey. Faith communities are born and die with the passing of time. The question: Can I by prayer and service give life to my faith community today?
