You have received without charge: give without charge

The Gospel today offers us a difficult job description. Get to work on the road with no money, no bag, no spare clothes, no support items. Stay with someone trustworthy, do not leave your peace where it is not welcome. It follows the Old Testament reading where Joseph began his work in Egypt as a slave, owning nothing but being owned by others. Can we be that dedicated? Can we let go of all the things that we think make us who we are and carry the Good News to those to whom we are sent? It is a difficult de-cluttering of our lives that is required to live Jesus’ call. The response to the psalm gives us the hint of what we are to be: grateful. Remember what God has done for us and therefore give all that is required of us in deep gratitude.
