Galatians 3:1-5. Blessed is the Lord God of Israel; for he has come to his people – Luke 1:69-75. Luke 11:5-13.
Confident trust in God
When I was growing up, occasionally mum would ask me or one of my siblings to go to the neighbours’ house for some small pantry staple we had run out of. It did not happen often, but when it did, we knew we had neighbours who would help us out. Jesus offers us an image of God not unlike this. God in whom we can trust confidently. God who is ready to grant us what we ask for, seek after, knock for. That we must ask, seek, knock is expressive of our freedom.
God does not force his gifts on us, but he is ready to give us what is good for us. If we believe in God, revealed to us in and through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, could we ask for anything more than to be in loving relationship with him and one another?
