Gift of salvation
The readings today feature ideas that are important to the Christian life. In 1 John we are reminded of God as rock and refuge, strong images that provide us with confidence in his mercy and expansive love. With this knowledge we will always have hope as we continue to praise God for the joys and marvels of his Kingdom among us.
Luke reminds us directly of the Good News that Jesus brings to all. But it is important to turn away from sin and be able to accept this gift of salvation. When Jesus speaks of poverty here, it is not just economic poverty but spiritual poverty as well. We should ask ourselves if our spiritual lives are impoverished and how we can recreate our relationship with God to enrich and energise them.
