St Augustine Zhao Rong & Cc

Hosea 11:1-4, 8-9. Let us see your face, Lord, and we shall be saved – Ps 79(80):2-3, 15-16. Matthew 10:7-15.

Trust that God is at work

Strange, when Jesus sent his disciples out, he didn’t send them with a plan. They were to travel light with no extra money or clothes or bag, bearing the message ‘the kingdom of heaven has come near’.

In those Galilean villages and market towns, a stranger at your door was a test of character. Jesus asked them to rely on it, trusting that God was already at work in the people they met.

And what were they to do? To heal and restore. To go to the people others avoided. And then return and tell him what happened. It was a simple, relatively short mission, and not without risk.

We like to feel prepared, well-resourced, and in control. But Jesus often sends us out with less than we think we need so we can discover that God is enough.

Some will welcome you, some won’t. But go anyway. Carry peace. And trust that God is already ahead of you.
