Genesis 19:15-29. O Lord, your kindness is before my eyes – Ps 25(26):2-3, 9-12. Matthew 8:23-27.
What sort of man is this?
‘The men were amazed and said, ‘What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?’ (Matthew 8:27).
In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus scold his disciples for their lack of faith. While sailing at sea, a storm sets in. In desperation, the disciples wake Jesus, thinking the boat will sink. Jesus reproaches them. He says, ‘“Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was great calm’. How often do we need Jesus to soothe the squalls in our lives? We must remember he is in charge and that there is heavenly assistance to solve even the most minor dilemma. All we have to do is call out to him, and he will save us from the tempest in our lives.
God, remind me to cry out to you before I despair. You have the answers to eternal life. Let me seek you first and put all other plans, solutions, and ambitions aside.
