1 Peter 1:10-16. The Lord has made known his salvation – Psalm 97(98):1-4. Mark 10:28-31.
Whoever has left everything for the sake of the Gospel will be repaid
In the Gospel, Peter asks Jesus ‘What about us?’ Can you hear yourself asking the same question of Jesus today? What more do I have to do? Today is Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday) or Carnivale (Italian for goodbye meat). It is also called Shrove Tuesday – a day of confession and absolution before moving into the Season of Lent. What are the meaningless things we can give away today? Each one of us is on a journey to be more united with Christ. We are asked to strive for that self-emptying, so we can be more self-giving. Jesus assures Peter that anyone who gives up things for love of Christ would receive back a hundred times over what is being sacrificed.
