Let truth speak
In this reading, we encounter a spiritual moment that pierces through the ordinary like an lightning bolt. The possessed man’s cry, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth?’ is less likely to contain fear; it’s recognition. While the crowd marvels at Jesus’ authority, the unclean spirit knows exactly who he is: the Holy One of God. There’s something unsettling yet deeply revealing in this exchange. It reminds us that knowing Jesus isn’t just about admiration or ritual – it’s about truth. Jesus doesn’t come to comfort our illusions; he comes to confront that which binds us. In a world that often prefers a tame, palatable version of Christ, this passage jolts us awake. The question is whether we’re ready to let this truth speak into our lives.
