About Today Readings

Galatians 5:1-6. Let your loving kindness come to me, O Lord – Psalm 118(119):41, 43-45, 47-48. Luke 11:37-41.

Give thanks for what you have and it will all be clean

My hands have never been so clean. Covid-19 has meant a number of small changes to all our daily lives, but one of the most striking is the attention to hygiene. I carry around a small bottle of hand sanitiser with me, stores mandate you use their sanitiser before entering, and I’ve become much more scrupulous about washing and drying my hands. But as Jesus remarks to the Pharisee that is the easy, visible part. We might give the impression of being God-centred but is that for appearances sake only? Do we make ourselves visible when others are around to notice and then disappear when the real work begins? Today I pray to God, who knows all in our hearts, that my thoughts and actions are in harmony with God’s commandments.
