Galatians 5:1-6. Let your loving kindness come to me, O Lord – Ps 118(119):41, 43-45, 47-48. Luke 11:37-41.
Live faith in freedom and love
We can be enslaved in many ways: caught-up with meeting society and social-media expectations; involved in things we do not even care about for ‘fear of missing out’; fighting fights linked to past hurts, a never-ending focus on wealth accumulation; needing to please all and sundry.
Even in faith we might strive to meet religious obligations without understanding the broader meaning, entrapping ourselves and others to a more one-dimensional experience of God.
Jesus emphasises the danger of such an approach leading to a hypocritical and judgmental attitude.
Instead, we might persist in living faith from a place of freedom and love. God’s commandments and Church teachings form a foundation for this, but when we ponder the God behind these, the teachings can delight rather than oppress or enslave us.
Consider investing time reflecting on an area of life that has you enslaved. Bring God into this space.
