Pray for those who persecute you
At bedtime, my daughter relayed a story about playground forgiveness from the school day. Some Year 1 infraction had been committed, and my daughter’s friend just couldn’t forgive another little girl. With all her 7-year-old wisdom, my daughter encouraged her friend to forgive the other girl – because that’s what Jesus wants us to do. The friend finally acquiesced and forgave. My daughter said she was proud of her friend. Jokingly, I admitted, I understood her friend’s struggle to forgive. I have a friend from grammar school I still need to forgive. My daughter sternly asked me, ‘Mum, do you love Jesus?’ I said, ‘Yes’. ‘Then, forgive’, she chided. Enough said.
Lord, help me love my enemy even when it feels impossible. Help me pray for those who have hurt me so your love can soften my hardened heart. Help me love those who are separated from your goodness.
