Genesis 49:2, 8-10. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever – Psalm 71(72):1-4, 7-8, 17. Matthew 1:1-17.
Come, wisdom of God
Today we begin the first day of the ‘O Antiphons’ – prayed in preparation for Christmas. The Gospel acclamation incorporates the O Antiphons as they are so fitting. The antiphons come from Isaiah and remind us that God has accompanied his people throughout history, longing to love us and to save us. They are a powerful way to ponder the Incarnation especially in this last week of Advent.
Today’s antiphon is that of wisdom: ‘Come, wisdom of God’. In the same way, our response reminds us of another Advent theme – the way of justice and peace.
